Language is everywhere, discover more about languages around the globe as you explore some of the objects within the museum galleries. Join the Linguistic Diversity Collective in the main hall on the ground floor of Manchester Museum to pick up your activity sheet.

Recommended ages 5 plus together with parents/carers.

Exploring Ancient Animals: Fossils Gallery, Floor G, 11am-4.30pm

Discover how palaeontologists make discoveries about ancient animals and ecosystems! Come learn about how old the Earth is, meet our palaeontologists and handle some real fossils.

What’s In Your Phone?: Human Natures exhibition space: Exhibition Hall, Floor G, 11am-4.30pm

Ever wondered what’s inside your phone, the come and explore the surprising array of materials, metals and minerals that go in to making daily technology devices. Where do we find these natural resources and how can we make zmore ethical and sustainable decisions about acquiring them as technology needs grow?

Porcelain Patterns: 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm, Chinese Cultural Gallery, Floor 1

Did you know that in some countries like England, people use the word “china” to mean porcelain? This is because porcelain originated in China a long time ago and was first exported from China to countries around the world in the 17th century.

Beautiful porcelain pieces are also on display in our Chinese Culture Gallery.

In this workshop, you’ll create your own blue-and-white porcelain–inspired artwork. Study and trace traditional Chinese blue-and-white patterns in the gallery or design your own unique motif.

Recommended ages 5 plus together with parents/carers.

Fabulous Foil Embossing: South Asia Cultural Gallery, Floor 1, 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm

Step into the South Asia Gallery at Manchester Museum and try your hand at foil embossing inspired by traditional South Asian fresco art. Create your own decorative design, explore artistic traditions from across South Asia, and take home a unique piece to frame or display.

Recommended ages 7 plus together with parents/carers
