Tour
The fight for women’s education transformed the University of Manchester from a male-only institution into one shaped by generations of female students, staff and campaigners.
Explore the stories behind that change on this 60-minute walking tour across campus. Beginning with the barriers that kept women out of higher education, the tour traces the long struggle from exclusion and segregation to admission, achievement and activism. Along the way, you’ll encounter some of the men and women who challenged convention, opened doors and reshaped university life. From the first women students and lecturers to campaigns for equality in the students’ union and beyond, this tour highlights the long struggle for women’s access to and equal participation in our University.
While a limited number of tickets may be available for drop-in visitors on the day, we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. Children need to be accompanied by an adult.
