Catch the winners of the much-loved Micropoetry Competition 2024 – and their rousing recitals – as part of a special literary event for Universally Manchester Festival.

Brought to you by the Centre for New Writing and Creative Manchester, the competition returned in 2024 and, in line with the University’s bicentenary celebrations, carried the theme ‘200 years of creativity: Manchester’s past, present or future’.

Entrants were invited to craft a haiku poem of no more than 280 characters to explore this theme, including creative reflections on the industrial heritage of Greater Manchester’s past, the Manchester we know today and the future of what’s to come.

A judging panel of esteemed poets, led by Honorary Chair of Creative Writing and poet Lemn Sissay, had the difficult task of judging the entries.

Discover which budding poets caught their eye and will pick up the prestigious first, runner up and under-18 prizes in an afternoon of verse, imagination and creativity.
