Your brain on beauty: what moves you?
TalkTicketed
We’ve all heard that beauty is in the eye of the beholder – but what does that mean for our brain?
Beauty is much more than just a famous painting in a gallery, an elegant ballet, or a world-class orchestra. It exists all around us, in the faces of our families or the smell of a home cooked meal. In our everyday lives, and in the smallest comforts.
Our brains recognise this and are uniquely wired to pick up on the things in our environments which make us feel at home. Often, they do this without us even knowing they’re doing it. Because our minds and brains are all unique, this can be different for all of us!
Join Dr Henry McPherson and Dr Sarah Fox who will explore the science and art behind how our brains respond to everyday environments, the people we see, the places we visit and how these experiences make us feel. They’ll delve into how we can become more aware of these unconscious reactions and consider how to attract more beauty into our lives and the lives of those around us.
From how tuning in to those around us help us to feel closer to each other, to how your past can predict the things which you find beautiful or ugly — join us for an interactive talk which will help you tune in to your brain and body.
Tickets for this talk, part of our Bee Curious programme, will be released later in May. While a limited number may be available for drop-in visitors on the day, we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment
