Growing Together: Meet Our Community Partners at the Universally Manchester Festival!

News

At the University of Manchester, we believe in working in partnership with our communities. Our collaborations enhance our research, our teaching and learning, and our operations. Through our civic engagement work, we connect with people across Greater Manchester to share ideas and make a positive difference together.

Alongside Manchester Metropolitan University, the Royal Northern College of Music, the University of Greater Manchester, and the University of Salford, we’ve created a joint Civic University Agreement with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and its ten local councils to support positive change in our region. We work with our Greater Manchester Citizens Panel to build their voice and views into the work on delivering the Civic University Agreement.

At this year’s Universally Manchester Festival, we’re excited to work alongside some brilliant community partners who bring creativity, innovation, and sustainability to life – with fun activities for all ages!

Pop along to the Alliance Manchester Business School, where we’re hosting the following community partner interactive stands:

  • Get creative with Sister by decorating your own plant pot and sowing seeds to take home. Learn about their tree nursery project and help shape green spaces for wellbeing and community events this summer.
  • At the Innovation Factory, discover how new businesses started at the University are shaping the future how – from satellites to plant science. Children can play a game imagining future careers.
  • Build and connect with The Works by trying out construction activities that show how working together builds stronger communities and inspires shared values.

Visit our university community allotment co-created with Ardwick Climate Action. Their activity Come Plant With Us explores how biodiversity keeps our air clean, and you can make your own seed pot to take home! And don’t forget to check out their  ‘Silent Skies’ exhibition at Manchester Museum which explores the air we breathe and was co-constructed with our students, community and staff.

Our Research Platforms have once again teamed up with local art collective, Grit Studios to present ‘The Art of Research’ a vibrant showcase of artwork inspired by university research. So why not unleash your inner street artist in our drop-in workshops to create your own street art along our trail.

Immerse yourself in the Rhythm of Life as world-renowned Afrobeat musician Sens Sagna and Dr Anita Greenhill bring together a powerful mix of the creative arts, social sciences and innovative approaches to address social issues. Join the duo for this interactive performance where you too can drum to the rhythm of your own beat.

Bring the whole family and explore how growing green ideas, sparking innovation, and building community can all happen in one collective, inspiring space!
